I haven’t been to the Elan Valley yet this year so I decided to get a trip in before the winter arrived. So three of us – Sharon, Laurie and I – set off from Gloucester towards Rhayader. First stop was the café at Crossgates for a coffee, leg-stretch and a look at the shiny new bikes. Very nice but guidelines from my Financial Secretary do not currently involve anything shiny or new. *:(
Then 18 miles of twisty roads around the reservoirs with a brief stop for photos, followed by lovely stretch of tarmac down to Talgarth where we met up with Adrian who had been given the afternoon off his domestic duties. We arrived about half an hour after the agreed rendezvous time to find him sprawled across a bench seat, having enjoyed a full Sunday roast at the local pub. We paused for more coffee and a light munch and then took the A479 through the Black Mountains down to Crickhowell, then back to Gloucester via Mitcheldean.
Total distance: 185 miles – Sharon’s longest ride-out to date!
